a letter to my "smart" phone…

To my Treo 650,

I considered smashing you today – all office-space style. I should have learned after I returned the first two of you in 2006. The fact that an application called “The Missing Sync” even existed should have been a clue to me!! I’m releived to know now that when I add an item to my calendar and hit ‘Sync’ at the end of the day, it will actually happen, unlike yours did when it said “Synchronzation Complete.” My emails will show up and send, my callers voices will be at a decent volume, my photos will be clear, and I can play music on it, too! Treo, little buddy, I knew you sucked, but today I found out how inferior of a product you actually are. Now you will live in a shoebox until your battery dies and you’re buried by an unlucky old DSL or a pile of office supplies deemed garage-worthy. In a matter of months, I’ll clean out the garage, and when I find you, I’ll laugh at you like I laugh at my other cell phones from back in the day (remember before flip phones?). I’ll always remember you like a girl from college I didn’t call ( you both snuggled up to my cheek during happier times, after all). Then, you’ll reach your true demise… at the bottom of a black 40 gallon trash bag in my driveway, undoubtedly covered with old snotty tissues and expired food. Perhaps if you’re lucky you’ll have some of last week’s funky spaghetti leftovers to enjoy. Watch out for the ants, though.

Regards,  Nate

Yeah, I finally broke down and bought an iPhone today. Wow. How could people NOT dig this little booger? I see now why the tech universe flipped out over the iPhone… It’s by far the most advanced handheld technology I’ve used. I’m still learning the bells and whistles, but I’ve already experienced better sound, better syncronization, better camera, and more intuitive design than any of the crappy phones I’ve used over the last decade. It’s well worth the money for a graphics geek who’s calendar and contacts and connectivity are crucial to his day-to-day. Like me!

Of course, like any Apple product I purchase, watch for an iPhone upgrade any day now…
