Updating a previous story about supportsavannah.com:
It seems that Savannah “Nana” Reed is doing better, but still needs your support for some future treatment.
There’s a really heart-warming video featured on tonight’s KVBC website, under the “top video” section at the top right. Please check it out and get over to the fundraiser tomorrow night if you can.
The AIGA’s Design For Democracy is one of the coolest ways for designers to get involved in this year’s elections. Now, you have to be an AIGA member to participate in this particular call to action, but I highly recommend joining the AIGA for many other reasons. (search through my blog for that post).
I won’t go into my own personal opinions too much, because there is a time and a place for politics, and I’m not sure it’s here. I will say this, though: no one I know approves of the way this country is currently operated. Certainly not small business operators like myself. I’m not pleased, and I plan to vote according to which Candidate resembles my family’s needs the best. Common sense, really. It can also be much simpler: don’t vote, can’t bitch.
I’m hoping to submit a poster design later this week, since we’re gearing up for a few other contests. I’ll post a link to my design when I see it on there.
For you designers, Here’s the Link
Absolut had to apologize to some crybaby conservative columnists who called for a boycott. In my opinion, Absolut Mexico got exactly what they wanted: attention in the media and free publicity. Did they really think an alcohol ad was going to start a revolution? Personally, I give them props for thinking multi-dimensionally, and getting a big bang for their buck.
This article is a few months old, but it’s really interesting to type junkies. Goes into some details about what fonts mean, and why there are chosen.
I’m not big on “tooting my own horn” or “patting myself on the back” etc. … However, this time I’m proud to say we threw a pretty kick ass party on Friday night with the help of eurie creative and Canyon Creative. I’m not sure how many people came through the studio, but I’m guessing 50-75 people attended.
Very special thanks to friends, clients and colleagues who stopped by. Some of them are listed here: Dale, Ann, Joslynn and Alicia from Canyon Creative, Mary and Olivia from Color Reflections, Karl from Transaction Holdings, Connie from Bella Adaggio, Ann from Suede Studio, Chris and Casey from Monkey Web (no mas tequila!) Krystal, Eric and Jessica from Spark Creative, Joe the cateror (great job again) and last but not least Victor, Cat, Kathy, Adrian, Alex from eurie creative.
The night had a purpose, besides lots of laughs, great food and drinks. We supported three non-profit organizations, Silence No More, the Frederick Douglass Foundation, and Heaven Can Wait. Please visit their websites and get involved with these great causes.
… well, and a bunch of other Vegas Events. Mr. Leach has a really cool blog about celebrity sightings and events.
Thanks to Wicked Creative President Stephanie Wilson for the opportunity. Thanks to Vanilla Ice for the Guinness. It was damn tasty!
Hey, if you are a Lightroom user like me, you will want to check out the new beta version of 2.0. It looks like there are some pretty cool new features, and from what I’ve read, it won’t jack up your current libraries. What that means is, if there is a glitch in the new application, it is your fault for not using the old version (currently 1.3.1).
Adobe is quick to cover their butts. So will I, then: “Note: This is a public beta, not a final release. Neither the quality nor the features are complete yet. We want to show you our direction and get your feedback so that we can incorporate it into future releases.”
This is a really cool way to release software. It lets the dedicated users dictate what features are implemented in the final release, in a way. If a feature is too confusing, or doesn’t work – it’s discovered before you shell out the dough for the application and get super pissed when is wipes out your old stuff, or has a feature that doesn’t work, therefore causing 15 updates to make it work right. (see This Link for an example of that process).
Here’s the link to the new Lightroom beta, for those of you who want to try it.
