One of the best design evangelists is Tom Peters. His books have been a huge inspiration behind Black Diamond Digital Imaging. I recently re-discovered Mr. Peters’ website, and his blog, in particular.

Check out this excellent recent blog post from Tom Peters.

Hi Everyone, we have uploaded the shots from last Friday’s Beanie Bash 2008.

Check them out!

The shots turned out great. Thanks again to everyone that showed up.

CNN reports that December marks the last month of production for Polaroid Instant film. They are saying it is due to the popularity of Digital Cameras. I can see that, but imagine how many great photos are going to be lost because people don’t print out their digital photos.

Otis Burns still takes the same camera on his road trips today. At every motel where he spends the night, he takes a photo of the view from the room — whether it’s a pastoral landscape, a brick wall or the parking lot. And on the back of each photo he writes the details of the setting: the room number, the town and the date.

“Sometimes magic seems to happen and a deceptively simple picture outside a Motel 6 can say a thousand words,” Sean Burns said of his father’s collection. “Polaroid photos take [only] a minute to develop, but sometimes art takes decades.”

I got a great thank you email this weekend about our monthly parties at the studio. If you haven’t experienced one yet, please feel welcome to. We send out email invitations, blog posts, twitter feeds, myspace posts – if you don’t know about our parties, you’ve been on vacation in a far away land, my friend.

“Again, thanks for letting us crash your party. The networking that
goes on is awesome. So many different industries clashing together.
It’s awesome.” John Hawkins.

John was also very kind in his review our party on his blog. Check it out here.

John is a great family man, a passionate photographer, a über-programmer, and the organizer of WordCamp (more info coming soon) and organizer of the Las Vegas Twitter Meetup Group, which is a strong and growing diverse group of businesspeople who partake heavily in the activity formerly known as “networking” – but without the cover charge. ;) – I for one, am stoked about meeting John and the potential ahead for our groups.

Thanks, hombre. Salud!

Check out what this guy did to remodel his basement. Here’s the article. Thanks to Guy Kawasaki for the twitter post.

Thank you

Hey, to those of you who showed up last night at the studio – THANK YOU. I’m very fortunate to have such great people surrounding me.

Currently, we have a truckload of clothes we’re going to donate to SafeNest, a mild hangover, and a group of hilarious “mugshots” of people wearing silly beanies. In other words: a kick ass party.

Tonight is the AIGA Las Vegas Holiday Party. Always a riot, so I’d better get some rest.

Cheers to good times with good humans.

Nothin’ but love,
Nate

It’s nice to see that the staunch US economy and it’s disastrous effect is being recognized on a national level by the AIGA. We work hard here in Las Vegas to keep the designer’s network strong – even when marketing budgets are being cut by the day – we have bills to pay. If you’re a designer looking for work, bookmark the AIGA.org website and keep your spirits up.

In the meantime, here’s an article about how the AIGA can help.

There are a few of the new 5D popping up on eBay, though I’m still very hesitant to order from someone out of town. I try to shop from my local camera shops – hey, they’re the ones who I run to in a crisis, so I need ‘em in business, yo!

At first, I didn’t really care too much about the video functions on this 5D. After watching this demo on YouTube, I’m pretty stoked!
