SIRIUS and the Mac

0

Hey, I’m not sure about how it works on the Windows platform, but the SIRIUS online player sucks for Mac OSX. Don’t get me wrong – I’m glad I can listen online, but there needs to be some “sirius” improvements made…

For starters, the SIRUIS player doesn’t stream the info of the song that’s playing. This might seem silly, but it’s actually a huge pain. When you think about it, that’s kinda the reason people subscribe to SIRIUS radio – to find and enjoy fresh new music that isn’t available on their corporate local FM stations.

Things might be in progress, however… there’s one programmer on the case, Dusty Wilson, who gives us Mac users a way to play the SIRIUS player through Firefox browser – but I can’t get the damn thing to work. The firefox forums all state that his plugin doesn’t list artist or song info, yet, anyway. You can try it – who knows, maybe it’s just my system that doesn’t jive. Here’s the link to the Firefox Addon.

Here’s another bummer. I don’t always use Firefox. I like Camino better. No luck there, either. The player won’t function at all. So I tried Safari. It’s very slow and clunky in comparison, but it functions – without the streaming song/artist info, of course. I checked with SIRIUS’ website for help. They recommend using Internet Explorer for Mac. Excuse me?! IE hasn’t been updated for OSX since OSX came out! Here’s how hilarious that went: I blew off the dust and opened up IE on my Mac G5, and I ran into trouble from the start. The SIRIUS home page requires the Flash Plug-In to view. Time to go download the Flash Player. Easy enough, right? I went to Adobe’s Flash Download Page, and I got this. Yep. IE doesn’t have an OSX Flash Plugin download! What a joke! This browser has sucked for 6 years. My version says © 1995-2001. Microsoft Corporation.

So, my mission continues… Wait! Hold on! I’m listening to SIRIUS 28 Faction right now (very great station, for the record), and it sounds like “I fought the Law” is coming on! One of my favorite tunes ever! But, is it the Clash’s classic? Or is it Green Day’s cover tune? Guess we’ll all have to wait and see…

Payday for a fellow 'poke

I went to college with this dude, and I gotta hand it to any fellow University of Wyoming Alumni making this kind of scratch. Way to go, Chuk!

(from espn.com)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs on Friday reached agreement with unrestricted free agent linebacker Patrick Chukwurah, a six-year veteran, on a five-year contract worth $5.5 million. Chukwurah played the last three seasons with the Denver Broncos.

In Tampa Bay, he will be reunited with former Broncos defensive coordinator Larry Coyer, who is now the Bucs’ linebackers coach. It is believed that the Bucs will use Chuckwurah as an outside pass rusher, a role at which he has shown considerable improvement in recent years. Chuckwurah is coming off a 2006 season in which he registered a career-best 4 ½ sacks.

A former University of Wyoming standout, Chukwurah has appeared in 69 games and has eight career sacks and four forced fumbles.

Neon Museum Event

0

You may have heard about the “Neon Graveyard” of old, dead casino signs. It’s located in the back of a crackhouse over near Cashman Field, and it’s DAMN rare that anyone gets to shoot photos there. Well, those old signs are finally getting a home, and tonight I shot photos for the crew that’s putting it all together.  Last year, the La Concha Hotel was saved by this group from demolition, and it’s soon to be the home of the electronic corpses – some as new as the Stardust sign  – that’s not even all the way down yet.

The event was hosted by the Plaza on Fremont St. and Main St. They had an incredible food spread and a wine bar – and the Cast and Crew from Shag with a Twist (new show at the Plaza) provided the entertainment. I met the creator (“Shag” – aka Josh Agle) and shot some really cool stuff under the new Shag -themed show on the Fremont Street Ceiling (largest display in the world, as far as I know) – We rapped about Adobe Illustrator, Vegas, LA, and the local art scene (“budding” art scene) A really nice guy.

Man, more equipment issues, too. I bought a new 580 EX Flash for my 20D last week, and it was acting really wierd – perhaps because my old flash was broken so long, I forgot the features that were designed to help a photographer get some light on the subject! I shot a few hilarious shots where the flash blew out everything, and a few where it went off, but was pretty worthless. Luckily, though – I remembered a blog I read a while back about using slow-sync photography on the AV setting (one of the auto settings where the flash fires, but the shutter hangs on until the correct exposure hits. Great for club and concert photography, and yes, THE FREMONT ST. EXPERIENCE. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve blown shots of FSE. It’s a bitch to shoot, I tell you. Just so happened that I touched up on that webpage just last week. When the producers of the Shag show pulled me aside and said “we have one minute to get the creators under their new FSE show” – I had to run.

Tonight, I nailed it. And I feel good about it too. So good, in fact, that I’m having the check for my invoice donated to the Neon Museum.

I got this email yesterday, and it seemed blogworthy.

Edge Designs is an all woman run company that designs interior office space. They had a recent opportunity to do an office project in NYC.

The client allowed the women of this company a free hand in all design aspects. The client was a company that was also run by all women execs.

The men’s room is a serious and quiet place. But now with the addition of one mural on the wall……let’s just say the men’s restroom is a place of laughter and smiles.funny pic

Cool new software -

0

February already? Wow. I’ll probably stop writing 2006 on my checks sometime in April… Anyway… I haven’t been blogging lately, I had a misplaced password after I cleaned a ton of stuff from my G5. Actually, it was full, so I was forced to toss a bunch of stuff.

After much research, I found this great little freeware app called WhatSize. This little sucker saved my butt. I had a backup file that was over 60 Gigs on my hard drive and I couldn’t locate it to delete it. Lesson learned: watch out where you backup your files to if you use .mac’s backup app. I had a monthly backup file from my laptop that copied pretty much everything from it (mp3s, photos, quickbooks databases, etc.) to my G5.

Another app that I love is The Missing Sync. Don’t even bother using the crapware that comes with your Treo. Use this. Everyone told me that, but I chose to ignore that advice. Unwise.

Finally, a new (to me) free multiple platform chat application called Adium rounds out my new list of cool ass software. It farts at you. And it just works – for Google chat, Yahoo IM, MSN Messenger, AIM, .mac, ICQ, and several others. If you have a mac, just get it.
